In the video clip from act 1 scene 5 Hamlet meets his father’s ghost. The director in the movie clip expresses William Shakespeare’s feeling about this situation in many ways. He is showing Shakespeare’s way of speaking in his tone in the clip that was shown here. He also is explaining very well Shakespeare’s tone between Hamlet and his father’s ghost. Mel Gibson played Hamlets part very well and watching him helps me understand the way Hamlet is reacting towards the ghost.
The delivery of lines and the imagery of this particular setting were really interesting. The tone goes perfect with the delivery of lines in this scene. The director shows very well the way Shakespeare (when he wrote this play) is trying to show Hamlet and The ghost’s reactions. Hamlets way of reacting is very good because it is expressing how he feels when he seen the ghost which makes easier to understand the play. He seems very scared and surprised at the same time and the ghost is just calm talking to Hamlet. The image where the play is taking place looks like it is taking place behind a temple. The image of the scene goes perfect with the play.
The portrayal of the actors and also the lighting and camera effects of this particular scene were interesting too. The portrayal or in other words the way that the actors plays Hamlets role was very good and it shows a great way of how Shakespeare is trying to show how Hamlet feels like in this situation with his fathers ghost. Mel Gibson played Hamlets part very well and makes it easy to understand how Hamlet is feeling at the moment in this scene. The ghost played his role well too and he seems very scary and speaks slowly and that’s how I think Shakespeare wanted it to be. The lights and effects were amazing in this scene. The scene was taking place somewhere very dark and next to a tall cement or brick wall behind some kind of temple. The ghost appears creeping up and the graphics of this scene shows very well that the ghost is a ghost.
Also the music and the sound effects was a great and big impact to the scene. The sound effects of everything going on is good and lets the viewer understand more how everything sounds like in this scene. The sound effects of Hamlet when he first meets the ghost are excellent because Hamlet seems very scared and terrified. At that point Hamlet would start crying which makes this scene more interesting and shows the great portrayal of the actor himself. The music in the background of the scene makes the viewer seem so curious of what’s going to happen next in the scene. To me the music gives the scene flavor because all this is happening between Hamlet and the ghost and the music makes it more interesting and lets you know what is the situation going on in this scene.
